Friday 22 April 2022
The Orwell Festival of Political Writing, held across Bloomsbury and online from 22nd June to 14th July, is a major new initiative that will bring together the shortlisted writers for The Orwell Prizes 2022, along with some special guests, in a series of events to discuss the most important and exciting political thinking and writing today.
This year’s festival will open with the Orwell Festival Lecture delivered by Rebecca Solnit at Conway Hall, in an event co-organised with the London Review of Books. Other names confirmed include Stephen Bush, Carole Cadwalladr, Jason Cowley, Sirin Kale, Chris Patten, Kennetta Hammond Perry, Angela Saini, Ali Smith, Joshua Yaffa, and The Moon Under Water Podcast. Tickets for the opening lecture are now available on our website, with tickets for other events available soon. A full programme will be announced along with the announcement of The Orwell Prize shortlists in May.
There will be debates, panel discussions, lectures, and workshops, with writers from different disciplines being brought together to discuss the most pressing political questions. All events will be streamed online and will also be recorded. The festival will culminate in the announcement of the winners of The Orwell Prizes 2022.
