Tuesday 20 April 2021
As part of our mission to promote honest writing and reporting, and provide a platform for discussion around the prizes, The Orwell Foundation is collaborating with some of the best local bookshops across the country to host a series of longlist conversations: booking is now available direct with the bookshops (links below) for these unique online events.
The 2021 Orwell Prize longlist conversations bring together authors and journalists from across the four lists, from fiction, to non-fiction and journalism. Each discussion is prompted by a single one-word theme which the guests have engaged with in their nominated work.
The four events are:
“EUROPE”: Thursday April 29th 2021, The Portobello Bookshop – with Olivette Otele (Political Writing), Sarah Moss (Political Fiction) and John Kampfner (Political Writing) – chaired by Angela Saini
“HOME”: Tuesday May 4th 2021, At Home with Four Indies – with Monique Roffey (Political Fiction), James Rebanks (Political Writing) and John Harris and John Domokos, The Guardian’s “Anywhere but Westminster” team (Journalism) – chaired by John Mitchinson
“CARE”: Tuesday May 11th 2021, Chorleywood Bookshop, Sevenoaks Bookshop and Village Books – with Douglas Stuart (Political Fiction), Ciaran Jenkins (Journalism) and Madeleine Bunting (Political Writing) – chaired by Nicci Gerrard
Further guest speakers for each event may be announced in the future. Please contact the bookshop in question if you have a query about your registration.
