How you can help

There are a number of ways to get involved in the Orwell Youth Prize.

Your money could help pay for workshops in schools, taking writers and journalists into schools and helping us reach more schools and more students. It costs £1500 to run a pair of workshops. If you are interested in donating, please contact Jeremy Wikeley at

If you are an author, journalist or politician

We’re looking for interested writers, journalists and those involved in politics to:

  • inspiring young people through our school and regional workshops;
  • give feedback to young people on the writing they submit;
  • offer to mentor a young writer as they develop their talent;
  • contribute resources for our website (such as writing tips);
  • offer opportunities for work experience for OYP prizewinners.

If you’d like to get involved, please email Stephanie Le Lievre at

If you are a teacher or work with young people

The Writing Prize is free to enter to all UK students, whether or not your school has had a workshop. If you’d be interested in hosting a pair of workshops at your school or youth group, please contact Jeremy Wikeley at
