How we work

More than just a prize, the Orwell Youth Prize offers young people a journey progressing from debate-provoking workshops, to hearing from writers about the tools for effective communication, receiving individual feedback to building a community of young writers.

We work through multiple channels to ensure we reach as many young people as possible.

Our online resources and individualised feedback ensure proactive young people can independently improve their writing and critical thinking skills and enter the prize.

We create resources to support teachers to deliver an enhanced curriculum, particularly in English, Politics and Citizenship.

We provide subsidised workshops and seminars in the most disadvantaged areas, led by our experienced Delivery Director and high-quality guest writers. Workshops introduce students to Orwell, critical thinking and the techniques of impactful writing.

Working in partnership with higher education access programmes, we organise interactive youth forums that include debates, guest speakers, provocations and writing seminars.
