Katharine Swindells
Inside HousingKatharine Swindells is Features Editor and Head of Data Journalism at Inside Housing, covering social housing and homelessness, where her work has seen her shortlisted for the Orwell Prize for Reporting Homelessness 2025, win the Royal Statistical Society prize for Investigative Journalism, and named one of journalism’s 30 Under 30. Previously she was at the New Statesman, and her journalism has also been published in The Londoner, the Guardian and the Boston Globe.
Her shortlisted pieces were:
- Domestic homicide: what can housing learn when the worst happens?
- Temporary accommodation is even worse for neurodivergent children, but councils can do better
- Five years and counting: new data exposes the reality of families trapped long-term in temporary accommodation
Katharine’s pieces really stood out to the judges: she combined strong analysis and research with very human stories that showcase some of the difficulties many people are having to face, but also issues such as neurodiversity and domestic violence, which are still not commonly written about in relation to homelessness today.
