Taj Ali
with Maeve Shearlaw, Christopher Cherry, The Guardian, Al Jazeera, Hyphen
Taj Ali is a journalist, historian, former Tribune Editor and the author of Come What May, We’re Here to Stay: The Story of South Asian Resistance which will be published in September. Christopher Cherry and Maeve Shearlaw are Guardian video producers who cover news, politics, austerity and social issues. They recently worked on a three-part on the ground video series for The Guardian, looking at the impact of rising hate crimes and Islamophobia on UK politics and our society.
Their shortlisted pieces were:
- Luton v Tommy Robinson: the myth of a town divided
- ‘Abusing Muslims is not going to fix this country’: rising hate in the UK
- Mosques attacked, children racially abused as hard right rises in UK
- The 2024 riots could be repeated — any time, anywhere
I loved Taj’s thoughtful and sometimes humorous exploration of the dynamics of identity and community in an increasingly fragmented and hostile political moment.
